Gonna play devil's advocate here and say that every complaint about 2016 being "the worst year" due to how many celebrities died sounds eerily similar to every complaint about how 2015 was "the worst year". If I was a betting man, I'd place my bets on the possibility that the cycle is going to repeat itself next year; about 10 or 20 prominent celebrities are going to die due to illness, accidents, or natural causes, and people are going to say "2017 was such a bad year, why did you have to take XXXX, YYYY, and ZZZZ from us god?"
 
As unfortunate as it is, death is something that happens all the time to everyone, regardless of celebrity status or not. With 7.4 billion people across the globe, you're going to have a few well known people, especially older people, dying every year. Its an unfortunate, but guaranteed part of life.

While I can't speak for RMH, I do like this change, considering how flexible it is to setup the discord server with multiple rooms and all. I'd imagine that it reduces the financial burden on the site by eliminating the cost on software as well (iirc, Ryon had to pay for the chat server/software separately back when he was still in charge).
