I know, actually most slice-of-life animes that i've watched are better than few science fiction/fantasy animes that i considers as pure embodiment of boredom.

#1 Doraemon

Loved all aspect since i was a kid and always will be.

#2 Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Most excellent and deep storyline i've ever seen and the anime doesn't feel so mainstream at all, no extended plot which is retarded, epic battle scene, and of course it's not your type of anime that use cute and sexy boob ladies to cover its boring and bland storyline like most anime nowadays.

3-5 can't think of atm.

FMA is the best

@supersaiyin38:

>> (3) Dragon Ball Z

You have some DBZ username, you have a DBZ avatar, DBZ is only #3 in your top five (5) list!?!?!?!?

LOL, didn't even think about that.  :=D:

But yeah, I just like Naruto and YGX more than DBZ for whatever reason.

While I do not watch anime on a regular basis, I guess I have watched enough anime by now to make a top 5 so here goes :

#1)

Danganronpacharacters3.jpg

Title : Dangan Ronpa : the Animation

Synopsis : Danganronpa: The Animation is a 2013 television anime series based on Spike Chunsoft's murder mystery video game, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. The series follows a boy named Makoto Naegi who, along with fourteen other unique students, is imprisoned inside the elite Hope's Peak Academy, where a psychotic remote-controlled bear named Monokuma offers them only one means of escape: murder another student and get away with it.

Reasoning behind it's top 5 place : At first I knew nothing about this franchise since I never heard about it nor did I know of it's existence. However thanks to a good friend of mine on here, I decided to check it out. I first came into contact with this Animation thanks to Dangan Ronpa Abridged by Faulerro which in itself is one of the best abridged series I've seen. However due to the lack of DRA episodes at that time, I decided to watch the official (non-abridged) Animation and from the first episode onwards I was hooked, not only because the cast seemed so interesting but the concept was fascinating and until then never before used AFAIK. Before I knew it, I had seen all 13 episodes but still I was craving for more. The funny thing is that I thought to myself right after having watched the final episode : "Hey, using this concept for a videogame would be amazing". Little did I know at the time the Animation was based on an already existing videogame by Spike Chunsoft. I only found that out after reading about it on  it's wiki article on Wikipedia and browsing through the Dangan Ronpa wikia (because if it exists, there's a wikia for it). It may not be as in-depth as the game it is based on (basically it skips the Free Time Events which serve as character development moments entirely), but watching this is a most efficient and enjoyable way to be introduced to this franchise.

After that, I started to read up on everything that had anything to do with Dangan Ronpa, from Character and story articles on the DR wikia to watching each one's Free Time Events in the games. Luckily for me there was another game which was a direct sequel to the first DR game, appropriately named Dangan Ronpa 2. I watched a playthrough of it, read up on it's setting and characters and even though I may sound like a DR fanatic, I'm glad I discovered this excellent franchise and I highly recommend to all who are reading this and don't know about it yet to watch it too!

TL DR : It has a great cast of characters with a rather fascinating concept which seems like a cross between Phoenix Wright (thanks to it's School Trials, one of the strongest points and concepts of the series) and a School Life Simulator. The music is very fitting too and has some outstanding and instantly recognizable tracks like this one :

#2)

Ao_no_exorcist_DVD_cover.jpg

Title : Ao no Exorcist / Blue Exorcist

Synopsis : Blue Exorcist, known as Ao no Exorcist in Japan, is an anime series adapted from the manga of the same title by Kazue Kato. It is directed by Tensai Okamura and produced by A-1 Pictures. The series follows a teenager named Rin Okumura who finds out he is the son of Satan and is determined to become an exorcist in order to defeat him after the death of his guardian, Father Fujimoto.

Reasoning behind it's top 5 place : Just like with all other anime on this list, I knew nothing about this series nor of it's existence until posted a topic about it with a link to the first episode. Know because I have already stated why I think this is so awesome and because it is no use repeating things already said, here's a link to my "review" :

#3)

souleater-jpg.jpg

Title : Soul Eater

Synopsis : Soul Eater is a Japanese anime television series based on the similarly named Japanese manga written and illustrated by Atsushi Ōkubo. Set at the "Death Weapon Meister Academy", the series revolves around three teams, each consisting of a weapon meister and (at least one) weapon that can transform into a humanoid. Trying to make the latter a "death scythe" and thus fit for use by the academy's headmaster Shinigami, the personification of death, they must collect the souls of 99 evil humans and one witch, in that order; otherwise, they will have to start all over again.

Reasoning behind it's top 5 place : Truth be told, Soul Eater is the very first anime I have ever watched and therefore it will always keep a special place in my heart. It was recommended to me by a rl friend who was discussing the characters with another friend of mine. Since these characters seemed so interesting, I decided to look up the first episode to see what Soul Eater was all about.

And boy what for a debut episode it was. It introduced the main pair of protagonists of the series and the remaining 2 duo's would soon be introduced in the next 2 episodes. What immediately immersed me into this series was the interaction between all these equally interesting and unique characters. It has a nice story going for it (humans transforming into weapons) and the music is very recognizable and satisfying to listen too. What especially was memorable for me was the amazing teamwork shown in each and every battle in the series between any pair and their adversaries. For the rest the series has a good balance between humour (which I value greatly) and seriousness and no episode felt like a filler episode even though there are 51 episodes in total.

TL DR : Great characters combined with unique character development, great recognizable music and an amazing story which finds just the right balance between laughs and serious business, makes this anime an absolute recommendation in my book.

Here's the first well known intro of the anime to give you a small taste of what to expect when you decide to watch and let yourself be engaged into this series :

Asobi_ni_iku_yo!_Vol01_Cover.jpg

Title : Asobi ni Iku yo! (JPN) / Bombshells from the Sky (ENG)

Synopsis : The story revolves around Kio Kakazu. During a memorial service for one of his family ancestors he is introduced to a girl with cat ears. The girl calls herself Eris and claims she is an alien. Before long, fanatical alien worshipers and a mysterious government agency are in hot pursuit of Eris, but Kio's childhood friend Manami—who wants to follow in her father's footsteps in the CIA—captures Eris. Kio finds himself having to protect Eris from everyone.

Reasoning behind it's top 5 place : To be honest, Asobi ni Iku yo! is the 2nd anime I watched, not too long after I was done with Soul Eater (see #3). I unfortunately do not remember anymore how I got to know of it but what I do remember is that I loved. It's a cute anime with a decent story but more importantly a rather unique cast as half of it are aliens who still look like humans but with cat ears and tails but are still classed as aliens none the less. Makes me think if I'll be deemed an alien too if I put on cat ears with a strap-on cat tail but that's besides the point lol.

In any case, the aliens (known as Catians) are rather unique and "well-developed" though not all of them are. Furthermore the characters have enjoyable and recognizable (albeit sometimes predictable) interactions and it's a mostly story driven anime but when there is action, the action is gold. I can't say more about it really other than since it's the 2nd anime I ever watched, this too will always have a place in my heart. It may not be the most serious or hilarious anime but if you're looking for a short (12 episodes +1 OVA) no-brainer kind of anime with plenty of humour and fan-service, you can't go wrong with this one.

Also this anime introduced me to Catgirls, "nuff said. :=D:

#5)

Senran-Kagura.jpg

Title : Senran Kagura (the Animation)

Synopsis : Senran Kagura is a television anime series by Artland based on the video game series by Marvelous AQL and Tamsoft. The series revolve around a group of five girls who are training to become ninjas at the secret Hanzou Academy, whilst facing off against the dark ninja of Hiritsu Hebi Girl's Academy.

Reasoning behind it's top 5 place : IIRC, I have to thank our very own for first introducing me to this franchise. He once posted one or two pictures depicting Senran Kagura girls in the chat room and since their overall appearance pleased me much, I decided to do some investimagating and found out those girls hail from a series known as Senran Kagura. After consulting the trusty ol' Wikipedia, I found out that Senran Kagura is a series of video games which was popular enough for a short anime adaptation which clocks around 12 episodes + 6 short bonus OVA included with each DVD release.

Now if you're kinda familiar with Senran Kagura, you know you should not expect too much from this anime and I did read some reviews before I finally decided to judge it for what it's worth myself. I did not regret seeing it as this anime has plenty of fan-service and is not afraid of making fun of itself, something which I can certainly value. This anime is comparable to Asobi ni Iku yo! (see # 4) because it similar in terms of story and character interaction and that it is a no-brainer once more. The only reason Asobi ni Iku yo! is higher up on the list is because compared to this, it's story is just much stronger overall.

If there is one thing I could criticize regarding this Animation then it's that the ending was kind of an anticlimax due to some very overused tropes being used. I won't spoil it so you'll have to see it for yourself.

However that should not keep you from watching this one at all if you like the idea of big breasted ninja girls (each one being more well endowed than the other) duking it out with each other in a world where removing your clothes to become more powerful is a concept. Furthermore like Dangan Ronpa, this anime is a great introduction to the Senran universe and videogames so I'd say give it a go, you got nothing to lose after all. ;D

Phew, that took a lot of time to write so I hope you enjoyed reading it if you bothered too and/or found some new cool anime to watch if you happened to run short of them.

Honorable mention :

UMD_Volume1_Cover.jpg

Title : Unbreakable Machine-Doll

Synopsis : It is the early 20th century. Raishin Akabane is a student puppeteer from Japan who has come to the Walpurgis Royal Academy of Machine Arts in England to study the emerging field of Machinart: a combination of magic and technology with military applications. He is accompanied by a girl named Yaya, who is actually his Automaton: a living machine doll powered by magical circuits specialized in hand-to-hand combat. In the Academy, there is a combat tournament exclusive to the Top 100 students and their automata, to decide who shall be bestowed with the title of "Wiseman", the greatest puppeteer.

Reasoning behind why it's an honorable mention and not in the top 5 : Although I quite enjoyed watching this anime, it felt short to get in the top 5 due to some elements I will elaborate on in a moment.

Now how did I get to know this one? Honestly, I was busy watching some other anime (which I did not finish watching due to lack of immersion/interest) when I saw this title named on the recent anime list. I decided to click on it since I had nothing better to do atm and the current anime I was watching was quite boring anyway.

After sitting through it's debut episode, I was positively surprised and left craving for more. The world and concept of Unbreakable Machine-Doll is a fascinating one as the story plays out in and around an Academy where every student learns about and has one or more (usually one) Machine Dolls they can use for either combat, social interaction or (if the constant avances of Yaya or Raishin are anything to go by) sex. Don't know how that last one would work but just go along with it, okay? XD

Actually this constant one sided romantic tension between the two main characters ( a human and his Combat Doll) was one of the main elements which kept me watching the next episode after I was  done watching the previous one. The supporting cast (including allies and enemies) is fairly memorable as well but the actions and flow of the story unfortunately became quickly predictable for me (but that may just be me).

If you like the idea of humans interacting and battling with one another using their own Machine Dolls (like Pokémon but more badass) and a protagonist duo which mainly thrives thanks to sexual humour combined with awesome action scenes (in which you can actually keep track of the action unlike in many other animes), this one is a good bet for you considering it only counts 13 episodes and you're free to stop watching it at any given moment

Now why this fell out of my top 5 list is because of :

- The characters, although certainly memorable, don't have enough character development

- At times the anime jumps to quickly from one place to another without warning

- The story feels rushed at quite some moments

- The constant interactions between Yaya and Raishin are charming at first but may quickly become a nuisance due to predictability and a feeling of "I've seen this 50 times already, come up with something new please"

- The ending leaves on a Sequel Hook, which has not been developed yet. While it certainly has the right to do this, it leaves the viewer unsatisfied as the story is not finished.
